OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000a (4Q9S4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hey all,

ordered the Ryzen 7 5700x3d to upgrade to and was curious if a BIOS update was absolutely needed for these newer chips.

After looking, I've found many people mention issues with updates to the BIOS bricking their mb and I'd like to not do the same.

My current version is F.20 and like stated previously, I'd be going from an 5700g to a 5700x3d.

@Karsonxx,

An outstanding question!  Let's take a look:

According to HP's official specs, your HP OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-0xxx as fitted with the HanaL motherboard (SSID: 89EB) has only very limited processor compatibility.

But wait, looking at actual HP OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-0xxx User benchmarks, we see additional processor compatibility, including the Ryzen 7 5800X and the Ryzen 9 5900X, and -here it comes: the Ryzen 7 5800X3D!

The Ryzen 7 5700X3D is a newer CPU (released January 2024), based on Vermeer-X (Zen 3 + 3D V-Cache), very similar to the 5800X3D but with slightly lower base/boost clocks (65-watt TDP vs 105-watt).

  • Electrically and BIOS-wise, it's still AM4 Vermeer, just like the 5800X3D -meaning, it should be compatible!

  • You may have to clear CMOS/reset BIOS after installation, if needed.
  • Post-5000 BIOS support from HP may not have microcode updates specifically for 5700X3D -but since it's "drop-in compatible" with 5800X3D firmware, it will very likely work.

Hope this was helpful!

Kind Regards,

Thank you!

I ended up going with the 5700x3d due to obtain ability,

spoke with Omens direct tech line as well today and verified this being the case as well.
Also was able to send a BIOS update to the rig via Software Assistant, going to go ahead before install and update the chipset drives as well.

Will update with results as it’s done, thanks on your help!
