Omen 25L GT12-0040
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently purchased an Omen 25L and realized I would need more storage space. This PC is advertised with a 512GB M.2 SSD, yet I am only able to use less than half that and the SSD I can see is labeled as a 256GB. I purchased a 1TB Samsung 860 SATA SSD to plug into one of the two existing SATA cables that came installed from the factory. I opened the PC to discover a 1TB HDD using the first SATA cable. I plugged my Samsung SSD into the other SATA that was open. Neither of these two SATA drives are being recognized by my PC. I know that at least the HDD is getting power as I can hear it whirl up when plugging it in. How can I get these two drives to work?

@Heckwine , welcome to the Community.

Did you connect both a power and SATA data cable to both drives?  Also, did you right click on them in Disk Management and select "Mark Partition as Active".  This is necessary for the system to recognize them.

Yes, I had connected them both via SATA cables. When I first checked Disk Management, neither drive was listed. I later returned to Disk Management and found both listed. I have my Samsung SSD working now. I am just confused as to why my PC came with a 1TB HDD that HP never mentioned or formatted and now that it is formatted, it says it has 1.8TB of open space? (sticker on HDD says 1TB).

Thank you for the additional information, @Heckwine!

I thought you had most likely connected both, but I had to asked.  Sometimes the obvious is not so obvious.  It sounds like you actually have a 2 TB HDD.  If HP upgraded, possibly in error, they may have also not formatted it.  I can't answer this question satisfactorily.

No worries, this is my first PC endeavor so it is likely a simple mistake could have been my issue lol. I’m assuming it is also a 2tb, HP must have included it accidentally or something; either way it’s left me confused. Thanks for your responses!
