Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Folks,

I'm planning to get a RTX 3080 for a friend as a gift.

He is currently using the HP Omen 880-179d desktop with 1080 Ti graphics card.

I'd like to check if it is compatible with the RTX 3080.

Namely, the RTX 3080 requires 2 x 8-pin power cables from the PSU.

Does the 880-179d come with 2 x 8-pin power cables?

(the 1080 Ti only needs 8+6 pin)

(it's a gift/surprise so I can't ask my friend to check)

@omenPSU , welcome to the forum.

First, let me say that you are a great friend!  I would like the RTX 3080, myself.

I have searched everywhere that I can think of with no success.  I am a bit concerned that the GTX 1080 Ti only uses a 2x4-pin and 2x3-pin connector.  Normally, they are 2x6+2-pins for the 8-pin connector.  HP has their components made to their specifications.  So, I am not confident in saying that you will be safe buying the 3080.

Your best option is, unless someone with the PSU answers your question, try to figure out a way to discuss your friends computer with him and making reference to the PSU's PCIe power connectors (Dongles).
