What type of DVD/CD RW drive would my computer take? It didn't come with one.

I looked through the info that is here

https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-desktop-pc-m01-f0000i/29014486/manuals

There was a reference to a "DVD Writer 640b" and another document had an illustration of a DVD with a mounting kit where it slides in and locks into place.  I could not find any parts for that kit.

I suspect that the DVD model changes depending on what region you live in.  An HP rep in you area would be able to advise you better.  CDs (music) are not region locked so any cd / dvd that fits in your case ban be used for backup purpose or create music CD.

My suggestion: get a portable USB3 type DVD writer that is region free.  Low $20 USD  ($100+ bluray)

Check reviews for region free info.  Windows media player does not do BluRay and I recommend DVDFab player.
