Pavilion 550-016 Hard Drive Upgrade

550-016
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Pavillion 550-016 and I wanted to know if I could add a new SSD but still keep the hard drive that comes with the PC. Are there any adapters, cables, or any other accessories to add a 3.5 inch SSD.

@Alex-H

You can add a 2.5" SSD.  You will need a SATA data cable and a SATA Y power adapter.  Review the below image for the location of the 2.5" SSD.  This HP manual might be helpful.

Hard Drive - 2.5 inch (top hard drive bay)

Steps

  1. There is a ledge on the bottom of the hard drive bay that the hard drive rests on when installed in the unit.
  2. To install the 2.5 inch hard drive, slide the drive into its ledge in the top drive bay, spindle side out, until the screw holes on the hard drive align with the holes stenciled "C" on the drive bay.
  3. Replace the four torx head screws to secure the drive to the cage. Note that screws used to secure the 2.5 inch drive are different than screws used to secure a 3.5 inch drive.
  4. Replace the SATA power and data connectors to the side of the drive.
