Theoretically speaking is it possible to install another mobo from the pavilion 550 range to another ? I.e. amd to intel or vice versa ?

Yes, theoretically speaking that would be possible, but often -as is the case with HP Pavilion 550 motherboards: the Camphor2-A8 motherboard (AMD) with p/n: 767104-001 and the IPM87-MP motherboard (Intel) with p/n: 785304-601, have different sizes and different mounting holes:

It would not, same difference so to speak.

 

Please be reminded that each motherboard is associated with a different Windows license.
