I Was Wondering If This Would Work For Me:
My Motherboard : Foxconn mcp73m01h1 (Napa)
My Current Processor:
Intel E2220 Pentium Dual CPU 2.4 Ghz
Socket : 775
Processor I Want:
Intel Intel Q6700 Core 2 Extreme Quad Core 2.66Ghz
Would This Be An Acceptable Upgrade, And If Not What Are The Issues

According to the specs on your motherboard you cannot install a C2Q processor.

I understand that it is not listed as an available upgrade on the specs.
however, i did see a Compaq PC using this exact mobo( Foxconn MCP73M01H1 (napa) pre-installed with a QXXXX series processor.
Knowing this now. will it work. and if not please explain why.
Below is a link to Compaqs site proving they use the same motherboard, and have a Q8200 installed on it (oddly the "upgrades" are still the same. seemly they're all downgrades to me)

I don't know what to tell you.
The other limiting factor could be the BIOS.
For example: the HP dc7600 series business PC has the Intel 945 chipset. When you look up the specs on that chipset the specs state it can take a C2D processor with a 1066 FSB.
Well, since I have a dc7600, I can tell you the fastest processor you can install in that machine is a Pentium D 950 (or 945) if you don't need VT.
Why? The BIOS limits what you can install.
So, you will have to hope someone on this forum owns the same PC as yours, and installed the Q6700 (or Q8200) in it, and can report it works with no problems.
I will say that you did your homework. You researched the specs...processor manufacturing technology is the same, etc. Are the stepping codes the same? You even found another PC that has the motherboard with the Q8200 in it, so you know in theory it should work. But in actuality???

Depending on your workload, the quad core might not be as fast as the upper end E8xxx processors. If your applications are not designed to take advantage of multiple cores then the faster clocking E8xxx might be a better choice.

Edit: THE Q9650 WORKS WITH THIS MOTHERBOARD! I just installed it, and everything is running great! Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed, as that is the version I am running.
I just puchased a used Q9650 (the best Core 2 Quad) and will soon be able to test it with this exact motherboard. i will let you guys know how it goes.
The system with the Q8200 obviously works fine with the Q8200. The motherboard uses the same BIOS updates as ours do, so the Q8200 for SURE will work if you do buy one. The problem is that the Q8200 is a weak quad core in general.
The Q8200 is 95W, runs at 1333MHz bus, has four cores, etc, just as the Q9650. It is almost the same processor except the Q9650 has more L2 cache and a higher clock speed.
I truly believe the Q9650 will work. If it doesn't, pretty much the ONLY reason it wouldn't is because of the L2 cache amount.
I do think HP didn't put Core 2 Quad processors in the upgrade list because for one the Core 2 Quads require more power, and a lot of HP desktops shipped with 300W power supplies, and two, the motherboard we are talking about launched before a lot of the Core 2 Quads were released. HP couldn't test most of the Quads we want to upgrade to. I think only the Q6 series came out beforehand, and I have seen HP OEM systems with this motheboard and Core 2 Quad Q6 processors installed.
