OMEN by HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0034

Hello,

I have a HP Omen Obelisk Desktop running Win10 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor. My processor is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz ,16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable) RAM and graphics is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (6 GB). My storage is 238 GB SSD SK hynix  and a 932 GB HDD WDC WD10EZEX . The only thing I use my hard drive for are pictures, personal documents and music. My question is that if I decide to update my Win 10 computer how will the update effect my hard drive? Will I still be able to use it? Will the update remove my pics, documents and music? Now I religiously every week back up all my pics, docs and music files from my hard drive to a USB device. I also use Windows Backup App for the data on my C:Drive on my SSD. I am trying to decide on whether to keep using Win10 and use the opt in option to pay for continued security updates for a year but that depends on whether MS Store updates will also be included and especially important the HP Optional Updates like for drivers, software, Bios, firmware etc.etc. that MS now handles through their updates or just leave everything as it is for several months and buy a new computer and of course that would be an HP. I use Norton 360 Deluxe and Malwarebytes  and I I only go to sites that I normally go to and I know are safe. Firefox is my default browser and I have configured the highest security settings there are in the browser. I would greatly appreciate any "professional" info or suggestions about this.

Respectfully,

Don

Hi, Don:

If you do an in-place upgrade from W10>W11 it will be done on the 256 GB NVMe SSD and should have no impact on the 1 TB 3.5" mechanical hard drive, which you should be able to use just as you are now.

Everything should be just the way it was, except you will be on W11 afterward.

Thank you very much for your reply Paul. Just so I understand that if I do an in-place upgrade I will still get the HP Updates like for a driver, Bio, firmware, software etc.etc. whether they are optional updates or not? Thank you again about the info about the hard drive. Have a great weekend.

You're very welcome, Don.

Yes, that is correct.

Whatever you are getting for W10, you will get for W11 as long as the PC has drivers for W11 on the support page.

The HP support assistant is only going to provide drivers for whatever HP supports the PC for.

For example, if the PC only has W10 drivers on the support page, the HP support assistant may not let you know if there is a BIOS update available if they were only designed to be run on W10, but you can manually update the BIOS from the support page.

If the updates are coming from Microsoft, then they will continue doing the same on W11.

One thing that is different regarding Windows updates on W11.

On W10 all updates show up in the same place.

On W11, some updates may show up in a different section on the Windows update screen.

There is a new category called 'Advanced Options,' and you click on that to see if W11 loaded any 'Optional updates, which if there are any, will appear there.

Cheers,

Paul

Thank you again for that very useful information my friend. Last question and then I will not bother you. If I decide to stay with Win10 and opt in to pay for the extended security updates will Microsoft still handle HP's optional updates like they do now as I find the HP optional updates very useful. I think HP computers and products are the best out there.

You're very welcome, Don.

Unfortunately, that I do not know.

My belief is that the extended support only pertains to Microsoft W10 OS security and cumulative updates.

That is my belief as well. I cannot get a clear answer about that part anywhere but maybe an HP moderator will come along and read this post and will have an answer. I greatly appreciate all the info you have given me. I will wait a few more days to see if I get an answer and then I will mark this solved by you. Take care and thank you again.
