Hi,

I have a similar issue with my HP Pavilion TouchSmart 23-f317c. I want to upgrade RAM.

Detail specs are below:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03989207

And here is detail about memory:

  • Single channel memory architecture
  • Two 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets
  • Supports DDR3 SO-DIMMs
    • PC3 10600 (1333 MHz)
    • PC3 12800 (1600 MHz)
  • Supports 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB SO-DIMMs
  • Supports up to 16 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit systems

Looks like I have 6 GB RAM. As far as I know we use RAM as 4N (4,8,16,...).

What is the best way to upgrade RAM? (looks like the motherboard has 2 Memory sockets: 2 x DDR3)

For ex, can I

- keep using 6GB RAM, and add 2 GB (to make 8GB), or

- remove the old 6GB, and add two 8GB RAMs to make 16GB in total?

If ok, below could be a good choice?

2GB: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MR2O8E5/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B01MR2O8E5&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX...

8GB: https://www.amazon.com/Pavilion-TouchSmart-23-f317c-PC3-12800S-PARTS-QUICK/dp/B00KY6SQ0G

Thanks.

@sbomy,

Your unit has 2 slots, occupied by a 4GB and 2 GB modules.  That equals 6.

Adding any module requires you to remove a module.  It's a matter of $$$ and what you need.

If the 8GB is the same timing (not specified) as the original 4GB, all would be good. (12GB total).  As it's single channel architecture, so swap the modules so that the 8GB is in the first slot.

What complete compatiblity?   Purchase matching pairs.

The 8GB module you quoted is +/- $90.  A matching pair from Criucial is $125  free shipping in the US.

So if you go with the pair at Crucial, you save $$.
