Hi HP Community,

My desktop is an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-00xx
(System Board ID 8433, BIOS version F.60, serial 8CG8493SL2)

It currently has a Ryzen 7 1700, and I’m considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 3700X
(same AM4 socket, 65 W TDP)

I’ve already updated to BIOS F.60, which according to HP’s release notes adds support
for Ryzen 2000 and 3000 series processors.

Can you please confirm officially whether the Ryzen 7 3700X is supported
on the HP 8433 (B300) motherboard under BIOS F.60?

Thanks in advance

@AlexReboot,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The HP Sunflower motherboard with SSID 8433 is compatible with the Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series processors, not the Ryzen 3000 series processors.

Please show me HP's reference about compatibility with Ryzen 3000 series processors.

In any regards, your motherboard is not compatible with the Ryzen 7 3700X CPU.

Kind Regards,

Hi NonSequitur777

The only reason I was considering this upgrade is to make my system
fully compatible with Windows 11
I really appreciate your clarification about the CPU support limits
on the HP 8433 (Sunflower) board

Thanks again for your help and for sharing your knowledge!

@AlexReboot,

You are very welcome!

Btw, the Ryzen 5 2600 and the Ryzen 7 2700 ARE Windows 11 eligible according to Microsoft.

[EDIT:] As is the Ryzen 7 2700X.

But even if your current processor is not W11 compatible -and your Ryzen 7 1700 is not, there are a number of reliable and effective bypass methods developed which would allow you to almost effortlessly upgrade your so-called "unsupported device" to Windows 11, such as this easy-to-follow YouTube instructional video shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSrmhhigEhY&t=332s&ab_channel=Tips2Fix.

Meaning, you don't have to upgrade your processor to a Ryzen 5 2600, Ryzen 7 2700 or Ryzen 7 2700X to upgrade your OS to W11.

This method uses a clever Microsoft (Server) backdoor Windows 11 install method.

This works great: I have used it myself on a number of legacy HP desktops without any issues whatsoever.

I cannot emphasize enough that this particular W11 upgrade method is hard to beat in terms of simplicity!

The Tips2Fix approach basically modifies the Windows 11 install media by replacing just one file (appraiserres.dll) with the Windows 10 version, which instantly disables all TPM, CPU, and Secure Boot checks without extra prompts or tool-specific steps.

Unless Microsoft changes the installer logic in future builds, this file-swap method will likely remain the quickest workaround for unsupported hardware such as your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop 690-0xxx.

Anyway, in the off chance you don't like W11, you have 10 days to roll back to Windows 10. After 10 days, unless you follow the steps outlined in this instructional video, you may need to do a fresh install of Windows 10. Either way, this video will show you what to do with easy-to-follow instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v9_-4JCh_U&ab_channel=Tips2Fix.
