SATA M.2 SSD Not Detected by HP Slimline 270

Hi,

My SSD is Samsung 860 EVO M.2 SATA 256GB. I have plugged it into the M.2 SSD slot but it is not detected anywhere. My BIOS is F.43, and I have tried searching the SSD in the BIOS Settings, Device Manager, Disk Management and File Explorer but to no avail. I have tried to change to IDE but I am not able to locate it in the BIOS as the settings is limited.

What is the full model number or product number of your PC?

Some model's M.2 slots only take SATA SSD's, some only take NVMe SSD's, and some take both.

Also, go into your BIOS setup menu, and make sure the M.2 slot security is set to have the M.2 slot enabled.

Hi! Thanks for getting back! My PC is HP Slimline Desktop PC 270-p0XX. How do I make sure the M.2 slot security is set to have the M.2 slot enabled? I am unable to locate the M.2 settings in the BIOS system.

You're very welcome.

The setting should be in the security settings someplace.

It is probably enabled but it doesn't hurt to check. One forum member indicated that slot was disabled on his model.

Do you have a product number for the PC?

It should be arranged something like this...5ES85EA#ABA.

Hi:

Your PC has a Lubin motherboard, according to the specs.

The Lubin motherboard uses NVMe SSD's, not SATA.   That is why your PC's BIOS doesn't see the SATA M.2 drive.

See this discussion...this person has a PC with the Lubin motherboard and installed a M.2 NVMe SSD with no problem.

You're very welcome.

A NVMe SSD will be much faster than a SATA M.2 SSD anyway.

So as long as you can get a refund, you will end up better off in the long run that the SATA drive didn't work.
