I bought a Samsung 980 Pro with Heatsink PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD for my HPE-170f Desktop hoping to replace the faltering SATA HD that came with the PC. It seems apparent that I will need an adapter, like an Asus m.2 PCIE x4 adapter (or alternative? Suggestions, Please) to accomplish this objective. My plan is to install Windows on the SSD and for all intents and purposes use the SSD in lieu of the SATA HD. I'll share, I'm barely treading water on my expertise here, so I plan to use my HP SmartFriends account to help me reconfigure the PC once I have the new PCI SSD installed. Please share your thoughts.

download the current windows OS installer for a USB key (8GB or larger) from the microsoft site
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/
once the install key is created, shutdown and install the new SSD disconnect power to all other HD's
now insert the win install USB key power on and it should boot from the usb key and see the new ssd and offer to install windows to it
once windows install finishes, shutdown and reconnect the other drives power on, enter the bios and set the SSD as the first boot device future win installs will require you to manually select the boot device on power on via a "F" key check manual for which one (my board it's the F9 key) or just set the usb key as the first boot device
last remove all partitions on the old c drive (after copying any data off it) and then create a new single partition
