YIKES!   My screen went black background with information typed in white. At bottom of screen it says: Hard disk failure is imminent. Please back up your hard disk and have it replaced!        What do it do to back it up if it will now do nothing?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Data may still be recoverable.

You would have to remove the HDD from your PC

Connect this drive to a different PC internally as a data drive or get a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter.

Then connect the HDD to the adapter. Connect this adapter via USB 3.0 to a different PC to see if you can move data from the failing HDD to the host PC.

You could also try Linux Live USB (Link) to get to your personal files. Linux Live may be able to help you save data if this HDD is not completely toasted.

You will have to replace the HDD and install Windows clean or use HP Recovery media if you don't have an offline backup image of your current operating system installation.

Regards
