Short Drive Self Test Failure

HP ENVY Notebook - 17t-k200 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I ran the hardware diagnostics I receive the Short drive self-test failure with the below code

U0DPTA-7PT9RQ-MFPWMG-60TG03

What does this mean? All other diagnostics passed

Short Drive Self Test Failure

Hello @Spillhate

It means error 303: Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure. Your hard drive has failed, or its on its way out and will need to be replaced as soon as possible. I would recommend you back up any data from it as necessary.

Since you have a CTO model, I have no way of looking up which kind of drive you have installed.

Here is your manual...  https://support.hp.com/us-en/products/

Thanks for the response. Can you tell if its a physical fault or digital?

Will a reformat of disk fix the problem or it requires a change?

If it is not a physical fault perhaps I can clone the existing drive on to the replacement

Its a physical failure. What prompted you to run the test?

If its working now, I would back up any data first. Then if you want to try cloning it, you can absolutely try. It will work or it wont.

But I always advocate a clean install on a new drive. Then you have a fresh start and what ever junk you had in the registry and such will be eliminated.

But yes, you are free to try what ever you wish. 🙂
