Is it possible to replace the mini pci wifi card with a dual band to use 5g or do I need to buy a pci card to go into the availabe slot?

The cheapest and easiest thing to do would be to purchase a 5ghz USB WiFi.

Disable or remove the internal one and install the USB WiFi in one of your 3.0 USB slots on the back of the desktop.

It comes with a single band M.2 form factor wifi card.

The parts list seems to indicate that there is only one antenna cable connected to the wifi card in there now.

There actually is one model dual band  AC wifi card with bluetooth that would probably be a direct swap for the Realtek card in there now, and it only needs one antenna to work.

 

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11 ac 1x1 WiFi + Bluetooth 4.2 Combo Adapter (MU-MIMO supported)
HP Part # L17365-005.

 

The card is on back order in the HP parts store, but you can find some on eBay...

 

Do your search by the HP part number, not the model of the wifi card.

If you want to open up your PC and you find that there are two antenna cables connected to the wifi card in there now, let me know and I will give you better alternatives to the one above.
