Just trying to find out what, if any, room is available on this desktop for extra drives. The computer originally came with a 512GB SSD and 1TB HDD. Ideally, I'd like to add a 1TB (or even 2TB SSD). It seems that there are conflicting information on what can be added to the computer from different places (including the documentation and this forum), though.
Also, relatedly, does anyone still make a desktop with both a SSD and HDD? Ideally, 1TB SSD and 2TB (or larger) HDD?

Hi @h27k
You can replace the HDD with an SSD of 1TB, 2TB or more if you wish, you can add another disk but you must buy the cables separately.

you should purchase the necessary cables, as currently installed on your HDD, and look for the SATA port which is probably next to the current HDD installed.
I particularly recommend you to change the HDD for an SSD, first it will cause less heat, it will go faster,

Thanks, but I have a specific need for an extra internal drive. Replacing a current drive is not an option. So, back to the topic, I'm guessing that there is one M2 slot left? (One should be taken up by the current boot drive and the SATA slot should be taken up by the HDD, right?) But, either way, I need additional cables, then? What do I need to install an extra SSD in the hopefully empty and available M2 slot? I'm a bit puzzled since I only needed to install a SSD in an M2 slot once before and that didn't involve any additional cables.

Are you sure you have an M.2 slot? I don't think so, that's why I told you to buy SATA cables and install an HDD or SSD but not an M.2.

Of course I'm not sure, especially since HP has apparently decided to get rid of the specification sheet from the product page--that's why I'm wondering about this here. I could have sworn that I saw that it has two M2 slots when the document was still available and other product specification pages (from the sellers that used to carry the product but list it as "no longer available" do the same.) I saw that this question came up earlier in the forums and they didn't seem to have gotten a helpful answer either, though. I didn't want to look poke around the insides without really being sure of what I'm doing.
One reason I was confused about what you were suggesting is that I recently came across claims that there is, in fact, another SATA slot (per the following video).:
Unfortunately, the guy started rambling, first claimed that there is no room, then he started talking about how he was mistaken and there is a slot and a 3rd drive could be installed there. Unfortunately, I couldn't really follow what exactly he was doing at that point. It looks like he installed a 2.5 inch SATA SSD, I think. Is that right? Since I never actually bought separate cables for an extra drive before, I was wondering about what it is that I'd need to get besides another drive.

I already told you it does not have a second M.2 slot and in the video it is very clear, it only has a SATA port, extra as long as you are not using the DVD,.
The SATA cable can be found on ebay and you can use the DVD cable to supply power, indicates another model is the same
