OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-041ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-041ng(Tampa motherboard).

On the motherboard there is a connector 6 pin GFX POWER.

I wish to put a second gpu on the motherboard (on the first slot there is gtx 1080TI).

It is necessary to connect power cable to motherboard connector (6 pin GFX POWER) also, or just on the video card power connector ?

Hello

OMEN by HP 880-041ng Desktop PC Product Specifications
your computer is indicated with a power supply of only

  • 500 W internal power supply
  • Active PFC Bronze efficiency

Have you checked if it will be sufficient at least?
Unless I'm mistaken, this connector is useful for a card requiring more power, not supplied by the pci slot.
But I doubt the usefulness if the power supply itself is no longer sufficient for a second graphics card.

I have changed the power supply with 850 W Corsair, it was to close to the limit.

I have changed the cooler on 1080TI with Arctic Cooler Extreme III, it was much to noisy.

I put another video card, gtx 1060 (for mining) and it worked with both motherboard and vga power connectors connected, but I don't like the noise and heat, gtx 1080ti now at 76 vs. 60 before, and 1060 at 74,and m2 ssd at 64 degrees.
