HP Pavilion Laptop - 15z High Performance

My laptop uses USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 1 , I want to purchase an external hard drive that uses USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 2. Will it work on my laptop?

Hi,

USB type C 3.1 Gen 1 vs Gen2 refers to data transfer rates.

Different type C cables may present a problem.

You would have to try it. The device may work or may not work probably due to a USB cable problem. The problem is not the pinouts but is caused by different power requirements.

Tough to give a definitive answer.

Regards
