I have a HP Slimline Desktop - 450-114il that I would like to upgrade.  It currently has Samsung 4GB DDR3L (SO-DIMM) PC3-12800 single-rank(1Rx8) RAM in slot #1 and function properly. But when i use the same RAM in slot #2, my pc didn't boot up only black screen appears and i can't access BIOS only black screen. When i use newly bought 4GB DDR3L(SO-DIMM) 1600 Mhz dual-rank(2Rx8) RAM in both slot #1 and #2 same problem appears, unable to get into bios only black screen. I would like to Flash the BIOS to hopefully resolve this. I see this desktop is officially retired therefore the drivers etc are no longer available on the HP site, can anyone provide a link to where I might find a BIOS update? Can I use both RAMs together?

Thanks

From the information I could find from the parts list, your PC comes with a  Nutmeg-P motherboard.

Looking online, it appears that motherboard has a BIOS SSID of 2B28.

HP PartSurfer

It is probably a hardware issue that is not solvable.

The only BIOS file I could find for your PC motherboard's SSID is A010.

If your PC has an older BIOS version and you decide to update the BIOS, first confirm that your PC's system board does have the BIOS SSID of 2B28.

You can find your PC motherboard's SSID by:

In the search feature on the Windows taskbar:

Type: System Information

Run the app and look for the Baseboard Product line about 1/3 of the way down on the report.

The baseboard product info is the same as the motherboard SSID.

Below are the info and exe file links to BIOS version A010:

Thank You.

Yes I have nutmeg-mini-itx rev 1.00 (Motherboard ssid 2b28), current BIOS version is AMI A0.08 date- 07/10/2015. Baseboard Product- 2B28, Version- 1.01(ECN1). So is it ok to update bios from A008 to A010 ? and can I combine 1Rx8 and 2Rx8 RAM modules ?

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

Yes, you should be able to update the BIOS to that version, but as I wrote earlier, I think its a hardware issue that a BIOS update won't correct.

Either that or you will need to find a DDR3L-1600 memory chip with the same specs as the original chip that HP installed.
