@davidturpin -- what is possible?

For a desktop computer, almost anything is possible.

What is your expectation and want/need for an update?

What is your budget? $200 ? $500 ?  $1000 ?

How fast is your computer's processor? If it is "relatively slow", then an expensive graphics adapter could be a waste of your money.

P.S. Do you have a building at a Canadian University named after you?  🙂

this is the tested, approved list of HP a processor, not being in the list, is not guaranteed to work

Total power consumption: 75 W

It is not mentioned which pci connectors are available (or not)
The power supply required, for another graphics card, may limit your choices, if too powerful, you will probably have to replace the power supply unit, always keep it simple!
you must check the available space, the graphics card must not be too large
you can see some tips in the KB of @old_geekster

Upgrade Video Card

Now take into account how old your computer is, how much money you might incur, and the limit on what you can do.
Sometimes, it is better to wait a bit, and move on to something else entirely, buy a computer, which performs well (or outright build it from scratch, more advantageous if you are a gamer)
