So I’m looking to upgrade my memory to 3600 (2800mhz)  MT/s of 16gbs of ddr4 ram (in a kit of two). I’ve checked the specifications of my motherboard and it says it is compatible with ddr4 2400 mhz and thats about all, although on my current stick of ram it is running at 2666 mhz. So I’m wondering if the set of ram im buying will fit into the ram slots and be compatible with my MB. The set of ram im getting is Kingstons fury beast DDR4 3600 MT/s 16Gbs (kit of two) and I want to know if it is compatible with my 690 HP sunflower motherboard

You can never exceed the maximum frequency supported by a processor, in your case it does nothing using Fury memory, use 2666 memory if you want to put 3200 the memory BUS will lower frequency to 2666.

Hi @Christian_-2

According to the specs it uses 2400 memory, maybe some upgrade allows it to go to 2666 memory but it is strange to me, Check in the Task Manager memory frequencies

If you choose this Fury memory is XMP profile, the PC is not XMP compatible and will probably have lower frequencies, maybe 2133.

I’ve checked task manager and it says the ram is running at 2666 mhz. Also another thing I’ve noticed that the speed that was stated on the website of Kingston is in Mt/s which differs from MHz. Since I’ve discovered this I now I’m changing  the ram to 3600 MT/s which is around like 2800 mhz apparently. I’m now skeptical if I should I’d consider buying ram from Kingston as if not careful that Mt/s can be misinterpreted to be MHz. Now im thinking of looking for any alternatives that are more compatible and reliable with my Mb and will still perform well. Another thing if I do decide to get the 3600 Mt/s (2800 mhz), at what speed will it run at.

Thank you for helping me, it was real informative. I’ll probably end up buying the 3600 Mt/s even if it won’t run at its advertised speed. I really only need more ram, and I wanted to make sure if there would be any problems that could harm my system or if  the ram wouldn’t fit into the ram modules.

You can try it but I can assure you that it will never go to that frequency,
