Upgrading system ssd 8gb hp pavillion 595-p0350nd desktop

Dear HP Community,

I want to upgrade my SSD in my current system, which is 256Gb, to 1Tb SSD. i read at https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c06418742 that there are 3 expansion slots, 1 PCIe x1; 1 PCIe x16; 1 M.2. 

However, I see that SSD is mostly PCIe x4 or x8. 

Can I install the new SSD in the x16 slot? Or is there only 1 SSD slot, which I would have to replace with the new SSD card?

The existing 256GB m.2 NVMe SSD can be replaced.  Examples

You get the new NVMe SSD, and use a USB3.0 to NVMe adapter. You use cloning software like the free Macrium Reflect 7.  After cloning, swap the SSD's. Now you will have a portable NMVe SSD, but at USB3.0 speed.

I can then replace the current SSD with a new one of e.g. 1Tb.

So, if I am correct, I take the follow steps:

1. Clone the C:/ drive (current SSD) to my HDD

2. replace the SSD with the 1Tb SSD

3. Boot windows from the HDD

4. Clone the C:/ folder back to the SSD (can you do this?)

5. Re-start and now boot from the SSD again

Alternatively, I can probably mount Windows to a flash drive and make a new windows install after replacing the SSD, on the new SSD?

Clone means to make an exact copy of the contents (entire drive).  It does not mean to copy a folder.

Your correct -

you could expend the time to start fresh, reinstall the programs, assign folders for data to the 3.5" drive.
