T750 G2 UPS

I have an HP T750 G2 uninteruptable power supply. The manual specifies two 7.2 Ah 12 V batteries to be used in series. My question is, could I use much larger batteries to increase the run-time? I know they would then have to be situated outside the UPS unit. The unit has an internal fan, so I figure it can cool the inverter etc and might be able to run for as long as it is supplied 24 V? I know I'd need to use large gauge cables to avoid dropping significant voltage.
