Product: HP Envy 700 PC-215XT
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Envy 700 PC-215XT that runs great with the exception of the fan on the Nvidia GeForce GT 640 Video card.  Can this card be replaced with something else?  A Nvidia GeForce gtx 1060 was offered by a friend.  Would this work?  If not, can you please give me the name of something that will?

Your motherboard has UEFI: https://www.howtogeek.com/56958/HTG-EXPLAINS-HOW-UEFI-WILL-REPLACE-THE-BIOS/

 

So, this is not a concern for you.  However, while the card will work in the PCI Express 3.0 x16 slot, the power supply unit (PSU) may not be sufficient to operate it properly.  The PSU is only 300W.  If you provide the manufacture and exact model of the GTX 1060, I will be able to tell for certain if it will work.  If you could provide a link that would be great.
