Hi, im new to this site. Im also new to hp. I just bought a Pavilion Elite HPE-400f desktop pc, and i want to start up grading the hardware in it. I was thinking of starting with the graphics card. My first question is, if i get a good card will i still have to upgrade the sound? Or is it all inclusive? Will a long card fit in this model pc? I was looking at some of the ATI Radeon cards, such as the hd-5770. Or the hd 5870. Would these kinds of cards fit. i want to spend somewhere around $200.00 for one, so which one brand and model would be a good choice??

The specifications for your PC indicate that the HPE-400f only has a 300 watt power supply. Does your PC have the ATI 5450 video card?
If you want to make a real difference in video performance then the PSU will need to be replaced. The Corsair HX 650 will work nicely. Otherwise, a video card like the EVGA NVIDIA 240 GT 1 GB DDR5 is about the best for a 300 watt PSU but it's not DirectX 11.

hi, thanks for the help. ill look into buying that corsair 650 power supply. do i need to buy anything else with it such as cables? or does it come complete with everything i need to install it? i was thinking about this graphics card ( xfx radeon hd 5770) i saw it on amazon for $150. is this a good card? and will the corsair-650 be a good mach for it?

www.newegg.com has power supplies and video cards. Look over the above information. I prefer the newer NVIDIA video cards such as the NVIDIA 460 1GB DDR5 with the 256 bit memory interface. The card is shorter than the 5770 and it might be easier to fit into your cabinet.
The power supply such as the Corsair HX650 should work without issues for the most part. Keep the cables tied nice and neat.

On this same topic, I would also like to upgrade my graphics card. After foolishly thinking all PCI cards & power supplies were OK on my PC (they BOTH didn't fit !), now have decided to ask for help.
I have an HP Pavilion m9340f (product # KQ497AA-ABA, software build 83NAv6PrA1) Vista home premium. Motherboard is Intel G31/G33/P31/P35. I think the p/s is 350 watts, not sure.
Currently have an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS card & it lags on Arcania Gothic 4.
Need a graphics card in the $150- 200 range & p/s recommendations. Any help/advice would be GREATLY appreciated !

The HP m9340f is spec'd with a 350 watt PSU. If you don't need Directx 11 then the best card is the NVIDIA GT 240 1 GB DDR5. Otherwise it means replacing the power supply.
I have the same mobo and PSU in one of my PCs (m9200t) and use the NVIDIA GT 240 1 GB DDR5.
