Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Your HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower PC, as fitted with a 24-pin ATX enabled motherboard (2A73 / 2A73h), came equipped with a 300-watt power supply -please confirm.
This HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower User successfully installed a GTX 1660 Super: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/50852540, which, according to TechPowerUp can be powered by a 300-watt power supply. Because I don't believe the aforementioned power supply is equipped with an 8-pin PCIe power cable, the User must have used a dual 15-pin SATA to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cable in order to power the GTX 1660 Super card.
In any regards, the GTX 1660 Super or GTX 1660 Ti would be a nice graphics card upgrade for you.
Make sure that you max out your RAM: use 4 x 2GB of DDR2 PC2-6400, 800 MHz, Non-ECC, UDIMM, 240-pin RAM sticks.
Hope this was helpful.

Thank you so much for your reply and your help/information!! It is greatly appreciated!! I think I said the name wrong for the computer I have but the graphics card you suggested might still work. So I actually have an HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF. Do you have different suggestions for this computer?
Thanks so much,
Stephanie

All right, your HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF is fitted with a 240-watt power supply, and there are no proprietary HP power supply upgrades available. However, the best possible graphics card for your 8200 Elite SFF would be a smaller-sized, low-profile RTX 3050, such as this model for purchase: Amazon.com: ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6 Low-Profile 96-bit 14 Gbps PCIE 4.0 Super Compac....
There are other options available, which I pointed out in this discussion thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Hp-compaq-elite-8200-SFF-power-....

[EDIT:] Yes, this Zotac card should fit -though it will be close: it is only 3.6cm wide, and only 16.1cm long, and comes with a low-profile bracket you'll need for your SFF:
If you want a thinner card (1.5cm!) with still decent graphics power, look no further than this RX 6400 graphics card option: Amazon.com: XFX Speedster SWFT105 Radeon RX 6400 Gaming Graphics Card with 4GB GDDR6, AMD RDNA 2 RX-....
