EliteDesk 800 G3 35W intel i3 4mb
Linux
I would like to upgrade the processor in my HP DM. I love it and it is replacing a huge desktop that I build for gaming a few years ago. The space I am reclaiming is well worth it. Which generation processor works best? I would like to go with the most up to date generation option possible without any hiccups. Anyone done this type of processor upgrade?

What I currently have in my EliteDesk 800 G3

Intel® Core™ i3-6100T Processor 35W 3.2 GHz base frequency 3 MB cache, 2 cores, 4 threads Intel® HD Graphics 530 Supports DDR4 memory up to 2133 MT/s data rate

Option A)
 Intel 7th Generation 35w

Intel® Core™ i7-7700T Processor 35W Up to 3.8 GHz Max. Turbo Frequency (2.9 GHz base frequency) 8 MB cache, 4 cores, 8 threads Intel® HD Graphics 630 Supports DDR4 memory up to 2400 MT/s data rate Supports Intel® vProTM Technology and Intel® Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP)

Option B)
Intel 6th Generation 35w
Intel® Core™ i5-6500T Processor 35W Up to 3.1 GHz Max. Turbo Frequency (2.5 GHz base frequency) 6 MB cache, 4 cores, 4 threads Intel® HD Graphics 530 Supports DDR4 memory up to 2133 MT/s data rate Supports Intel® vProTM Technology and Intel® Stable Image Platform Program (SIPP)

Hi:

Below is the link to the quickspecs for that model series.

The supported processors begin on page 10.

Make sure you look at the grid where DM is specified.

Thank you. The data I posted  actually came from that matrix. What I am looking for is someone who has done this upgrade on this model. I am guessing the two options I posted would work but don't know for sure. Has anyone done this upgrade on the 35W model 800 G3 DM?? For instance can a 6th gen cpu be replaced with a 7th Gen i7? and vice versa? Do I need to stay within 35w CPUs or can I use the 65w cpus?

Hi Ocmacman17,

Have you manage to do the upgrade? ... I am in a similar situation like you back in August.

Thanks!
