HI,
IT APPEARS THAT MY HARD DRIVE HAS FAILED ON MY LAPTOP MODEL 15-AS120NA AND I NEED TO REPLACE BUT I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO ORDER AS A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT.

Your machine supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) SATA hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses that means it supports nearly all 2.5" HDD's for laptops.
HP uses many SSD's/HDD's from few vendors such as Toshiba, HDS (Hitachi), SanDisk (WD), Seagate, Samsung ... My suggestion for HDD
(a) At least 7200RPM,
(b) Big cache (larger is better) or SSHD class hard drive,
(c) Under 2TB, reason: for easy to manage and normally higher capacity HDD's are thicker.
