Solved!

Will this RAM work in my Z420?

HP Recommended
Z420 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to add some RAM to my Z420 Workstation.

It already has 4 modules of SK hynix HMT351R7CFR4A-PB T8 AD    4GB 1Rx4 PC3L-12800R-11-12-C2

Can I add to that 4 modules of G.SKILL F3-12800CL7D-4GBECO    DDR3-1600 PC3-12800 2GBx2 CL7-8-7-24 1.35V ?

Hi, @Lukon

Below is the link to the HP quickspecs for your workstation.

ManualsLib - Makes it easy to find manuals online! (zworkstations.com)

According to the specs ECC memory is called for.

That is what is originally installed.

HMT351R7CFR4A-PB Hynix 4GB DDR3 PC12800 Memory (memory4less.com)

The memory you got for free is non-ECC so most likely it will not work.

G.SKILL ECO Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-...

The first set uses DDR3L RAM and the second set uses DDR3 RAM. Why not use same

   SK hynix HMT351R7CFR4A-PB T8 AD 4GB 1Rx4 PC3L-12800R-11-12-C2

Regards.

"Why not use same"

Because I got the DDR3L for free.

And since I have the additional RAM for free, I want to know whether I can add it to my Z420.

Thanks for investigating that for me. Now I know the RAM I got for free is of no use to me yet.

You're very welcome.

You should be able to use it in any other business class or consumer class desktop PC that uses DDR3L memory, except a workstation.
