On switching on my PC, the keyboard did not work. I changed the batteries and went through the re-connect sequence. Still not working. I was then presented with a 'phrase' to type, which worked, but after that I could not type my login password.
I tried another keyboard and the same problem - any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.

Further to my last reply, I have solved the keyboard and mouse not working issue. I recently installed the April update, so thought it may be related to that. I powered down three times using the power switch, which took me into the menu for restoring the computer, using a variety of methods. I chose to 'go back to a previous installation' and let the PC do its thing.
I'm glad to say that it worked and the keyboard and mouse are happily active again. Thank you for your support.

First let's make sure there is a direct line from the key boa4d to the computer as even WiFi or wireless deceives can get interference from other devices near by. In other words make sure your smart phone etc is not near the key board when in use or attempting to connect.
Next, with the correct key board to match the software located near the system, reboot the system just to verify the system does not flash an error message etc. Rebooting is nothing more than waking or restarting the system with all of the devices close and installed. If your keyboard has the option to direct connect try this route first as direct connected devices tend not to get interference from outside forces.
Also, make sure that the software you've installed is the correct and updated version to the key board you're using. I'd hate to hear that you have the incorrect driver for the keyboard you've designed to the system. You would end up playing hopscotch between keyboards thinking you have the correct one installed. This could mean uninstalling or ev3n reverting back to an older driver just to verify the key board works.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried all you suggested to no avail. One maybe important thing I forgot to mention is, I've just installed the Windows 10 April update, which worked well.
However, on re-booting the PC, I'm stuck at the lock screen. Because I've tried my password a number of times, I'm now prompted for a security phrase, which I am able to type (indicating the keyboard is working), but the PC keeps telling me it is not correct.
Could this problem be related to the Win 10 update?, and if so, how do I get into my PC to uninstall it. Would I be able to use Safe Mode.
I realise this means it may be a software and not a hardware issue as first thought. Thank you for your time.

Morning sorry to hear that none of those things I suggested actually allowed you to gain access to your system. One things that can be done just to veruist that you can login, would be to purchase a cheap hardwired key board. Most I've seen in shops like Wal-Mart etc are running less that 20.00 bucks. Having a hardwired keyboard would come in handybwiththese types of issues. One you have the hardwire/ps keyboard. Attempt another reboot with this keyboard connected.
If these system doesn't grant you access to the settings, then I realize this would be a last resort, but creating a boot brisk or recovery disk would be the next option as at this point, you may have to do a system restore. As in the past, because at one point I didn't like win10 either I was bale to revert back to win7 but this takes some fannaggling to accomplish, have all drivers and software at the ready. The only draw back, is if you did not create a restore point or a system mirror to reset from. Otherwise and depending on your systems warranty, you would have to contact HP for a system restore disk and a system maintains a disks.
Lastly, I'm grabbing at straws here because I dislike anything wireless or WiFi yet I've been without a computer for several weeks and must login via WiFi network on a tablet..purpose someone with more knowadge of wireless devices can chime in here for you.
