HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-eh1000 (2H5A7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-eh1000 (2H5A7AV)

The battery does not charge past a certain percentage. The first time this happened it was 100% and it went down to 34% (I don't remember if it was connected to the AC when it went down to 34 percent). It was stuck on 34% even when charging, I tried fixing it by letting it completely run out of battery and then plugging it back in the charger. This time it only went up to 3% and stayed there. Btw; I'm using the laptop while it's charging. If I don't charge it, it will run out of battery and shut down.

I have ran the hp pc hardware diagnostic windows 2.7.2.0 tool for everything such as battery cpu ram etc. and it says everything has passed the tests including the charger (which is the official hp charger)  but still the issue remains. I have let the computer drain to 0 percent and charged it for about 10+ minutes and it only reached 3 percent. Here is the battery report html for the last three days. As i am typing this the battery went down to 2 percent on charge.battery usage over the 3 days (yesterday this problem happened as you can see)battery usage over the 3 days (yesterday this problem happened as you can see)diagnostics test resultsdiagnostics test resultsthis is the capacity when i first had itthis is the capacity when i first had itthis is the capacity as of nowthis is the capacity as of now

Hi @YaqubZala

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I completely understand how frustrating this must be—especially when your laptop is essential for daily use. Since you've already run diagnostics and confirmed that the charger is working, let's go through some detailed troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the battery issue.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for Battery Not Charging Properly

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your laptop and unplug the charger.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  3. Plug the charger back in and turn on the laptop.
  4. Check if the battery percentage increases.

Step 2: Update Battery Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager).
  2. Expand the Batteries section.
  3. Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Update Driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
  5. Restart your laptop and check if the battery charges properly.

Step 3: Uninstall and Reinstall Battery Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager again.
  2. Right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your laptop—Windows will automatically reinstall the battery driver.
  4. Check if the battery percentage increases.

Step 4: Run HP Battery Check

HP provides a Battery Check tool to diagnose battery health:

  • Visit HP’s Battery Check Support Page and follow the instructions to test your battery.
  • If the tool detects a fault, you may need to replace the battery.

Step 5: Assign a Static Charge Cycle

  1. Fully drain the battery until the laptop shuts down.
  2. Plug in the charger and leave it charging for at least 2 hours without turning the laptop on.
  3. Turn on the laptop and check if the battery percentage increases.

I know this situation is frustrating, and I really appreciate your patience while troubleshooting. Let me know if you need further assistance! 😊

Thanks for the reply. It randomly started charging again after giving several warnings about the battery being faulty and needing replacement. However, it's now working. Before that, I had uninstalled and reinstalled the battery drivers, did a hard reset, and drained the battery. After all that, it started to charge — interestingly, right when I was looking for a battery replacement. 😅

At the time, it was showing errors during my checks, then suddenly began charging again. As of now, it's been working fine. I'll just go with it until another issue comes up. For now, it's working again.

I'm glad to hear that your battery started charging again, even after the warnings! It sounds like your troubleshooting efforts—uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, performing a hard reset, and draining the battery—helped kick it back into action.

Sometimes these fixes can temporarily resolve issues, but if your laptop keeps showing battery warnings, it may still need a replacement in the future.

Keep an eye on battery performance over the next few days, and if it starts acting up again, running another battery report (powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt) might give you more insights.

Fingers crossed it keeps working for you! Thanks for updating me, and I appreciate your patience with this issue. 😊
