I'm using the charger which came with the laptop when I purchased it and it's been 2-3 months I was having no issues till recently when I turn on the laptop it pop ups a notification that mentions that 'non-HP charger is connected'. I cleaned and checked the charger and there was no damage or anything. What should I do?

@V_728,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

If you are using the original HP charger that came with the laptop, then this warning is usually caused by one of these issues:

  • loose or worn charging connector,
  • damaged charging cable near the connector,
  • dirt/oxidation in the charging port,
  • failing smart-pin identification inside the charger,
  • or a problem with the laptop’s charging circuitry.

Things to try:

1.) Fully power off the laptop and disconnect the charger.

2.) Inspect and clean:

  • the charging port on the laptop,
  • and the charger connector tip.

Use compressed air or a soft dry brush. Do not use metal tools.

3.) Check whether the connector feels loose or unusually warm during charging.

4.) Try updating:

  • BIOS,
  • HP Support Assistant updates,
  • and chipset/power management drivers.

5.) If possible, test with another genuine HP charger that has the same voltage and wattage rating.

Even when a charger still works, HP laptops can show the "non-HP charger connected" warning if the identification pin/chip inside the adapter starts failing intermittently.

If the message keeps appearing, the most likely causes are:

  • charger identification failure,
  • or a developing DC-in/USB-C charging port issue on the laptop.

Since the laptop is only a few months old, I would strongly recommend contacting HP India Support while your laptop is still under warranty!

Kind Regards,
