@joshua125,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

No, your HP Slim Desktop 290-p0xxx (SSID: 843F) is only compatible with 8th and 9th gen Intel Core processors, and if you are interested in the lower TDP "F" processors, consider an i3-9100F, i5-9400F, or i7-9700F.

@joshua125,

Look, the HP Slim Desktop 290-p0xx uses the 843F motherboard, which is based on the Intel H370 chipset. This chipset only supports 8th and 9th Gen Intel Core processors. The Intel i3-13100F (13th Gen, Raptor Lake) is not compatible because:

  1. Chipset Limitation – The H370 chipset does not support Intel's 12th or 13th Gen CPUs.

  2. BIOS Limitation – HP does not provide BIOS updates to support newer CPU generations on older motherboards.

  3. Socket Compatibility – The i3-13100F requires the LGA 1700 socket AND 600/700-series chipsets, which the HP 843F motherboard lacks.

If something (?) is saying that the i3-13100F works with your PC, it is incorrect or misleading. The HP Slim Desktop 290-p0xx (843F motherboard) is limited to 8th and 9th Gen Intel Core processors due to chipset, CPU socket and BIOS restrictions. The i3-13100F is a 13th Gen CPU and requires a newer motherboard with a 600/700-series chipset.

If you’re looking for an upgrade within your system’s limits, you might consider an i3-9100F, i5-9400F, or i7-9700F.

Please let me know if you need help choosing the best option for you.

Kind Regards,
