@edschilling,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the function (F) keys on your HP Envy All-in-One PC suddenly stopped working, try the following steps to fix the issue.

Check the Function Lock (Fn Lock)

  • Look for a key labeled "Fn Lock" or "Fn" + "Esc" and press it to toggle function key behavior.
  • On some HP PCs, you need to press "Fn" + "Shift" to unlock them.

Restart Your PC

  • A simple restart can sometimes restore keyboard functionality.

Check Keyboard Settings in BIOS

  1. Restart your PC and repeatedly press F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Go to Advanced > Device Configuration.
  3. Look for Action Keys Mode:
    • Enabled: F1–F12 work as multimedia keys by default (you need to press Fn to use them as function keys).
    • Disabled: F1–F12 work as standard function keys.
  4. Change the setting and save changes before exiting.

Update Keyboard Drivers

  1. Right-click Start > Device Manager.
  2. Expand Keyboards.
  3. Right-click your keyboard driver and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Search automatically for drivers and restart your PC.

Uninstall and Reinstall Keyboard Drivers

  1. In Device Manager, right-click your keyboard driver.
  2. Select Uninstall device.
  3. Restart your PC; Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.

Run Windows Keyboard Troubleshooter

  1. Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  2. Click Additional troubleshooters > Keyboard > Run the troubleshooter.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates and install any available updates.

Test with an External Keyboard

  • Plug in a USB keyboard and see if the function keys work.
  • If they do, it may be a hardware issue with your built-in keyboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
