Envy 700-210
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Envy 700-210 hard drive has failed. It came with windows 8 installed and I've upgraded to  Windows 10 (latest version) via internet prior to failure, so I have no os to use if I replace the hard drive myself. What should I do?

Hi
First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

The WIN 10 Product key in embedded in the BIOS NRAM.

Purchase an equivalent hard drive (not smaller).  You can download the "create WIN10 installation media" from this site. Your going to create either a USB flash drive (8GB) file. Or a DVD, or .iso. Just read the explanation.  USB is likely the best, but you'll boot from it.  Skip the Product Key inquiry. It will auto-validate IF your using an ethernet connection.  You can setup wifi later.

Hi Wb2001,

As suggested, I have a drive ordered and have downloaded the "Create WIN 10 Installation media" (from the link you provided) onto a USB drive (64GB). However, the fie is only appx. 18MB and I thought you said it would be an 8BG file.  Am I on the right track so far?

I assume I will need to: Physically install the new drive, insert the USB drive, connect Ethernet, connect all devices, power up and follow instructions on the screen? BTW, my internet connection is slow and limited to 500MB per day during the day but is unlimited between 2am & 7am)

Thanks so much for your advice!

@Buddy24

The file you download is a binary exe.  It should create the actual file.
