which thunderbolt 3 i/o card to add to my hp z840 that works that can buy for upgrade

@CHOCHO2 , welcome to the Community.

 

I believe your best option would be to choose a manufacturer of thunderbolt 3 cards and contact their Tech Support for help.  They are the experts on their products and will save you time, money and frustration.  This has always worked best for me when I am in doubt of what will work.
