Hi! I want to upgrade my old HP Compaq Elite 8200 CMT. I want to throw in a GTX 960 and 16 gigs of ram. Do I need to buy something so the pc will work. Can you also tell me where to buy it.

Thank you!

@gwn_hamza,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Your HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower PC is fitted with a 320-watt power supply (p/n: 613764-001 or 613765-001). A GTX 960 can be powered with your power supply (see: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-960.c2637), but you'll have to use a dual 15-pin SATA to PCIe 6-pin adapter cable to power this card, which looks like this:

Please note that it is not clear to me if an HP Compaq 8200 Elite CMT has two available (open) 15-pin SATA connections.

As a suggestion, a GTX 1650 will provide better graphics performance and doesn't require any PCIe power cable(s).

You can upgrade your RAM up to 4 x 8GB of DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 240-pin RAM.

As to where to buy a GTX 960, RAM &/or a SATA power adapter cable, here in the States I would suggest eBay. I am not sure what the Dutch eBay options are for you. Perhaps AliExpress would be an option.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

the 8200 elite CMT unlike the "SFF" model  can have it's HP unique power supply swapped out for a standard ATX compatible power supply when used with a specific  adapter that converts the HP specific power connector on the motherboard to a standard ATX one

https://www.amazon.com/24-Pin-6-Pin-Power-Adapter-Cable/dp/B07W4MKFV6

it's usually sufficient to use a ATX 650 watt to 750 watt ATX supply if using most mid range to older high-end video cards

doing this will allow you to install just about any video card as the 8200 elite is a UEFI/Legacy  compatible bios
