Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

DVD drive will play disks but reports an error when I try to burn a cd-R or DVD. The burn process starts but after 30 seconds it ejects the disk ans says their was an error. I uninstalled the drive, went into reg edit but I did not have any high or low filters to delete. I tried windows system recovery where it removes your programs but keeps your files, but that didn't help. I had the same issue a while ago and the only way I was able to get it to work was starting fresh with a complete install which deletes all of your programs and files. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try to use another cd burning program like NERO and see if its still not working...

Maybe the lense is dirty...did you tried to clean the lense with a Cleaning CD? try buying one - its cheap and works very good!

Thanks for replying to my post, I tried Roxio and Nero software and the same thing happens. it also happens if you try to burn a disc with windows media player. I guess the only solution is to restore the computer to factory default.

Try also a Cleaning CD...before restoring to defaults...

I guess you check if there is a new firmware available on the HP drivers section for your drive!

There seems to be updated firmware for your drive at this link.

Have you tried a different brand CD/DVD disk? Some drives can be tempermental.

You can uninstall the drive in 'Device Manager'.

When you reboot Windows will detect and re-install the drive and hardware driver which might help.

Here are some other troubleshooting tips.
