So I'm trying to update my CPU and a total noob, but I have updated bios.

I have a i5-12400F currently. Is there any real reason the i9 12900KS wouldn't work? I'm considering upgrading the motherboard but I really don't think I need to.

Any advice helps. even bad advice, just lemme know why it's bad advice so I don't mess my stuff up lol.

@JohnnyxRed,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Your OMEN by HP 40L GT21-0014 as fitted with the Blizzard motherboard (SSID: 8918) is certainly compatible with the i9-12900 and i9-12900F processors, both having a base TDP of 65-watt. It turns out that HP has restricted processors with a base TDP beyond 65-watt, such as the i9-12900K, which has a base TDP of 125-watt, let alone the i9-12900KS, which has a base TDP of 150-watt.

If you had the BlizzardOC motherboard (SSID: 8917), then this 65-watt TDP limit would not apply.

Kind Regards,

Sounds like it has BlizzardOC  motherboard : https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_5037050-5037113-16

The i9 12900KS CPU/Processor is NOT on the support list.

Regards.
