my dvd drive just stopped working.the last dvd i played and i noticed the drive was very noisy.now it will not play.

@buzzsaw2 , welcome to the forum.

 

It sounds to me like you have a failed drive.  The computer is 8 years old.  I suggest that you buy a USB DVD drive.  They are easy to use and don't take up space in the case.  I have been using an ASUS USB DVD drive for several years.  It works great and I can use it with my HP laptop.
