HP Pavilion 500-409ns
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

On my HP Pavilion 500-409ns I get error 512 - rear chassis fan not detected.

Also I notice less noise from the PC so I suppose it needs to be replaced.

I want to try replacing it myself.

How do I check compatibility of a replacement fan?

Thanks.

You're very welcome.

Remove your case fan and make sure the replacement you buy has the same number of wires.

Should be 3 or 4.  Make sure the connector that goes to the motherboard is the same too.

You need a fan size 92mm wide x 25mm thick (deep).

That's what the description of 9225mm means

I would imagine that is pretty much a standard size.

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for your PC.

HP PartSurfer

The part you need is the:

646679-001System Fan, 9225mm, Kidd

The part is not orderable from HP.

Here is a list of vendors that may have it, or you can do a general search by the part number on eBay or other sites.

HP Parts Store - HP Computer Parts - HP Printer Parts - Compaq Parts

Hi Paul_Tikkanen

Thanks for your quick reply.

That part does noes not seem to be available so I will have to try a third-party fan.

So back to my original question - how to I check compatibility with my desktop?

Thanks.
