HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I upgraded my hp800 G1 tower with a nvm SSD (crucial p3 Plus 2TB) via a pci express adapter.

in theory, this should be much faster than the Samsung 850 PRO 512MB connected via SATA

However,

the AS SSD Bench shows remarkably lower numbers. Instead of reading speeds in the region of 5GB/sec, i get only about 1.3GB/sec.

I used the white PCI epress slot on the bottom of the mainboard.

even though this is only PCI express 2.0, it should be enough for up to 4GB/s with 4 lanes.

Is there anything I could run to see if the x4 is really used?

Best regards

tritigr

Just so you know, the SSDs are NVMe, not NVM. Non-volatile memory express.

Check out the HWINFO64 utility. It will provide detailed information on the SSD.

In the drives section for specific SSD, it will show which controller is being used and the bandwidth.

https://www.hwinfo.com/download/

This is from my DIY Gaming rig. I highlighted the drives section of the system summary which does show the NVMe 4x8.0 GT/s interface.

Thank you for the pointer.

So it seems the connection is OK.

Makes you wonder where the bottle neck could be then..
