Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor:  AMD Athlon(tm)II X2 250 - 3.00ghZ

RAM:  4.00gb (3.75 GB usable)

64-bit OS and processor

Video quality has diminished with upgrade from W7 to W10.  Would like to know what I need to upgrade - video card? - if so, to what, and does anything else need to be added/changed.  Computer is used for word processing, spreadsheets, and watching videos only - no gaming.  Thanks BEJB

Hi:

Yes, the video adapter probably needs a driver.

See if this works first before putting any money into that old PC for a video card...

Install this free file utility.  The 2nd file at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

https://www.7-zip.org/

Download and save this graphics driver for the onboard graphics adapter your PC has.  Do not run the file.

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/82758/en-us

After you have saved the graphics driver file, right click on it, and select 7-Zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  and let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, go to the device manager.  Click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and hopefully, the graphics driver will install.

After the installation has completed, restart the PC and the graphics should be working normally again.

Thank you for the quick reply, and the perfect reply.  Followed your instructions and it worked 100%.  The lag is gone, and the video and color quality actually seem better than before!  The only thing that took me a bit of time to figure out was the correct resolution, which was not so hard after dividing the monitor's height into its width.  Thanks again!
