Is it the following one, which is HP Slimline Desktop - 260-a040il, its specs

            https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05105735

It came with FreeDOS and you installed Windows 10 32bit . Windows 10 32 bit does not support RAM over 4GB.

The specs says you can upgrade to 16GB (2 x 8GB) max, but your machine runs 32bit OS therefore no point to upgrade to anything larger 4GB.

It clearly says on its specs

note:

  • 32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • HP has tested a maximum of 16 GB on this system and does not recommend maximum memory beyond the 16 GB amount.

Regards.
