- replace power supply after brownout damage?

I have a Pavilion 590 that was disabled by a very nasty brownout: it won't turn on. Is it possible that the brownout affected only the power supply, so that I could restore the pc by installing a new power supply? Or is it likely that actual computing components were also damaged, making it impractical to attempt a repair?
