tg01-0023w matched ram will not run full speed

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

i purchase a ram stick that has the same part number as the ram that came with my pc. before install original ram running 3200 after install both sticks running 1600. remove original and moved new one to first slot restarted pc it runs 3200. install original in second slot they run 1600. please explain and suggest remedy.

It has 1 slot before. Now with 2 slots it runs dual (two) channels therefore you have 2 x 1600 = 3200.

 

Hope that makes sense.

no it does not make sense. i have been upgrading pc's for years and have never had the ram slow down due to having more than one chip installed. This is not the first time I've worked on multi-channel ram machines. but it will be the last HP I will ever own. Trying to find someone to buy this one from me, I am completely dis-satisfied.
