SO I chose this case on reccomendation from a friend talking about how reliable it is. I regret my choice. I have been trying to do upgrades to the power supply, and now the case fans only to find standard parts don't work for some ridiculous reason.

Now my case fan has died, and i have bought FIVE replacements so far only to find out they don't work for various reasons.

I am at my wits end. I just want my computer to work and I am out of money to buy yet more replacements.

Somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong. T_T Why don't the pins fit, i can't find anything about the configuration with the 4 pin being different anywhere.

Update: There's no difference with the wiring as far as I can tell, and the internet seems to agree, and the only thing keeping my new fans from being plugged in is the little plastic nubs aren't wide enough apart. Hm. I decided I had 5 fans to destroy if I wanted to and snipped off the offending plastic nub from a 3-pin and filed it down. It works fine.

NOW if anyone can tell me EXACTLY WHY this won't work and will harm my computer, please do tell. Z400 are years and years out of warranty, so it's not like that's even a factor.

@raentrieve,

As humbling as this will be, you need a specific fan.

Part number 434645-001 as shown here   or here.

Be sure to light a candle in 5 days, as the z400 will be 10 years old.

@wb2001

I'm sure you can understand if I am unwilling to use 10 year old recycled hardware off ebay and am asking what the difference is. I have enough techies in this house to reconfigure the wiring if i can only find out what the difference is.
