Can anyone tell me what size, 2.5, 3.5 or other my hard drive is on a HP Pavilion 6605p  and what is the largest memory hard drive I can add to it. I am almost out of space.

Thank you;

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Just so we don't get confused, let's start by getting our terms right.  System Memory and Drive Space are entirely different --combining the terms does not make sense.

It looks like you want to increase your Drive Space, and that means getting a hard drive with larger capacity.

According to the HP specs, your PC came with a 640GB SATA-II drive, and that means that virtually any 3.5 inch SATA-II drive will work to replace it.  However, I would no get one larger than 2TB because those require special formatting that will interfere with your restoring the PC setup to it.

Also, once you have the drive, you will want to migrate your current setup to it.  What I recommend is "cloning" the existing drive using the instructions below:

1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR)
2) Connect the new drive to the PC using a USB-to-Hard-Drive drive adapter (like the one illustrated below)
3) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk
4) Shutdown the PC when done
5) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.

You should boot from the new drive without any problems.

Typical USB-to-Hard-Drive adapter:

Good Luck

Hi,

I can't find HP Pavilion 6605p  but HP Pavilion 6605f:

Given they are on a same family you can add 3.5" SATA II HDD to your machine. Your machine has 3 bays/slots for HDD's. Finding SATA II HDD is a bit hard now, you can use any standard SATA III HDD on market today. My suggestion: it is much simpler to manage HDD around 2TB and under.

Regards.
