One day I was working on my laptop suddenly it hanged. I waited for 10min but not found any changes. Then I forcefully shut down my laptop but when I opened it there was nothing showing on the screen even the laptop was on. Then I shut it down and pressed windows plus B and power button and waited for a min, it showed that BIOS file not found or the files are corrupted, please insert a USB flash drive and restart the pc. But the problem is that I bought it second hand so I don't know it's model number and there is no any sticker on it. The hardware shop is demanding 2000rs and more for the issue but I can't afford it. Please resolve my problem. It is hp envy x360 convertible laptop and there is pavillion written on it's folding.

Hi @A1107,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how stressful this must be your HP Envy x360 convertible laptop suddenly going blank, showing a BIOS recovery message, and now asking for a USB recovery drive, all while you don’t even know the exact model number. And with local repair shops quoting ₹2000 or more, it’s completely understandable that you’re looking for a solution you can do yourself.

Let’s take this step by step. I’ll guide you through identifying your laptop model and then creating a BIOS recovery USB drive to hopefully bring your system back to life.

Step 1: Identify Your HP Laptop Model Without a Sticker

Even if the sticker is missing, you can still try these:

Option A: Use HP’s Auto-Detect Tool

If you have access to another working computer:

  1. Visit HP Customer Support for Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Support
  2. Download and run the tool, and it will automatically detect your laptop’s exact model number and product ID.

Option B: Use BIOS Info (if accessible)

If your laptop still shows the BIOS recovery screen, sometimes it displays:

  • Product Name
  • Product Number
  • System Board ID

Take a photo or note down anything you see; even partial info can help.

The rest of the steps are shared in the next post

Next set of troubleshooting steps.

Step 2: Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive

Once you know the model, follow these steps:

A. Download BIOS File

  1. Go to Official HP® Support
  2. Enter your model number or use the auto-detect tool.
  3. Under BIOS, download the latest version for your laptop.

B. Create Recovery USB

  1. Insert a USB flash drive (at least 8GB) into a working PC.
  2. Run the downloaded BIOS file, and it will extract and give you the option to create a recovery USB.
  3. Once done, insert the USB into your non-working laptop.

C. Perform BIOS Recovery

  1. With the USB inserted, press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
  2. Release the Power button, but keep holding Windows + B until you see the BIOS recovery screen.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
