HP TouchSmart 610-1050y All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Paul or Anyone -

Products specs:

HP TouchSmart 610-1050y All-in-One, 24".

Can NOT locate 'traditional" Serial # tag, so, here are the numbers that ARE visible on the drop-down panel @ rear bottom of the unit:

BuildID: 11ANA1ARW6** #SABA*DABA

FeatureByte: 2V33 3D3K 3N3Q 3R3T

J6S 6V6b 7B7K 7N7R 7S7W 7j7w .Qe

Background:

Computer booted and ran - but was terribly infected with LOTS of non-functional software.

Removed HD & WIPED IT using 3rd party software. Re-installed it properly.

Installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT. NO GLITCHES.

Using another computer - I went to HP's page for the drivers for this precise model and downloaded ALL the driver installers to a USB Stick. Moved the installers to the User Acct. Downloads folder on this computer.

Installed them to the this computer -- RESTARTING IT AFTER EACH INSTALLATION.

The computer went to the Microsoft Updates web site & downloaded/restarted/installed/configured most of the 167 Windows 7 Updates.

Computer boots quickly to Windows 7 Desktop, TouchSceen responds to touch.

It runs for about a minute or 2 or 3 then SHUTS down as if you had pulled the power plug.

Removed and re-checked the HD. All the software is there and the HD checks OK using the manufacturers diagnostic tool.

Power supply checks out perfectly.

ANY advise short of trashing this computer (it's got a video cable connection) would sure be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Patrick

Hi, Patrick:

It could be a bad memory module.  It doesn't even have to fail the test.

If the PC has two memory modules, remove one of them and see if the thing still shuts down after a few minutes.

If it does then remove that module and try the first one you removed.

It is highly unlikely both are bad, so that is the easy way to try and isolate a memory issue.

If it still happens, then unfortunately I have no idea what it could be, since it could be anything from a faulty motherboard, a loose connection where the power jack goes to the motherboard, a broken wire inside the power cable...anything.

Hey Paul -

Wonder of WONDERS......

After letting that HP sit for a week, I read your reply to my request for help.

Then - I plugged it in, pushed the button, it booted and is STILL RUNNING.

I think that that happened because it KNEW I referenced U.

U have the FORCE, dude. It reaches out to those in need and FIXES stuff.

Thanks Paul

Take care.

Paul -

I forgot to ask you another question regarding this particular HP TouchSmart.

My original post contains all of the unit numbers I could find on it.

I tried to find - on HP's site for this product - a way to buy disks or a USB containing the original software for this uint.

Couldn't find it.

Maybe you can and give me a link or phone # to call to buy it.

Hi, Patrick:

HP normally quits selling recovery media for a PC after 3 years or so.

Then this company buys up the remaining kits.

They still have recovery kits for sale for your model...

Hey Paul -

I followed the link to their site and reviewed the offerings.

They did have a listing for an HP TouchSmart All-In-One - but - Windows 8.1.

I emailed them with my specs and asked what they could do.

Will let you know what happens.

That link U provided is potentially a good source for me and my clients.

Didn't know of it B 4 - mainly because I'd never asked you for the availability of Recovery media.

Good show.

Thanks

Patrick

Hi, Patrick:

You asked if W7 recovery media was available for your HP TouchSmart 610-1050y AIO PC.

The link I posted was for W7 recovery media for that very model.
